Zentrum für InfektionsMedizin München

Center for Infection Medicine Munich

(Zentrum für Infektionsmedizin München) – ZIMM

The past decades have witnessed increasing worldwide development of drug-resistant bacteria, viruses and parasites, a rising number of immunosuppressed patients with infection complications and the rapid spread of new infectious agents through increased mobility. In response to these threats, basic research and clinically oriented research in infectiology need to work more tightly together. In the Munich area, institutions with a focus on infectious diseases have joined their forces to create ZIMM, the Center for Infection Medicine Munich (Zentrum für Infektionsmedizin München).

ZIMM is a joint initiative of the Technische Universität München (TUM), The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and the Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU) in partnership with the Institute for Microbiology of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) and the Munich municipal hospitals (Städtische Kliniken), as well as the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority.
